In 9 man sit and goes where 3 people are payed if you are cashing in over 33% is this good? what percentage should you ideally be hitting?

also what would you think is a good percentage for multi-table tournaments of between 90 – 180.

thank you :)

It’s about ROI, not just cashing. You can cash 50% of the time, but if it’s always 3rd, then you end up losing.

But you can cash only 33% of the time, but if you are taking 1st place, then you are making a profit.

Forget get about how often you cash out. A lot of people sneak into third place a lot but don’t really make any money because they’re don’t know how to play themselves into first very often.

The first thing you need to look at is if you are winning or losing. That’s where it starts and ends. If you’re up after a decent amount of games (at least 500 or so) then you’re on the right track.

The next most important stat is ROI or return on investment. Again, anything in the positive is good, but if you’re only a little bit up at the $1 tournaments, you’ve got a lot of work to do. And it makes a difference what stakes you play at. A small ROI at the micro limit tables is nothing special, while it could be quite impressive at the big money tables.

For example, I don’t play $1.20 tournaments anymore, but when I did, my ROI was around 40%. At $5.50-6.50 tables, 15%-25% is pretty good. At middle limit tables, anything around 10% is plenty good, and at the high limit tables (about $50 and up) 5% is quite good.

If you are cashing in 33% you probably won’t be a profitable player unless most of the cashes are 2nd and 3rd place finishes. 33% would basically be a break even number but the rake makes it a losing percentage. You probably want to be close to 40% to be a profitable player and 50% or higher to be one of the best.

In the MTT’s that pay only the top 10 – 15% of places, you probably need to cash 15 – 20% of the time with a few of those cashes being in the top 3 places (since these tourneys typically have top heavy payouts). Without a few top 3 placings your profitability will be miserable at multi table tourneys.

Sometimes you can take more risks on the bubble to accumulate blinds and/or win some coinflip scenarios to double your stack and have a shot at first place or one of the top spots. This will lower your ITM percentage but can increase your profitability overall by getting you into the top few spots when the strategy succeeds.
